    Murder In Old New York

Sarah Brandt, a midwife, is the widow of the murdered Doctor Thomas Brandt. She is also the estranged daughter of Knickerbocker society parents the Ellsworth's. Sgt Frank Malloy is a NYC policeman who is trying to buy his way to a captains position in the police dept.He does not care for midwives due to the death of his wife in labor. He blamed the midwife for her death, and his disabled son's condition. It is 1895. Teddy Roosevelt is President of the Board of Police Commissioners. He is trying to clean up corruption within the police dept. as the police only solve crimes for those who who can afford to pay them bribes to do so. At the series beginning Sarah and Frank are trying to solve a murder together but are suspicious of each others motives. Their respect for each other grows as the series progresses, and develops into love for each other. Each of the murders in the series occurs at well known locations within the city. We have the opportunity to learn something of the history of New York City, and how crimes were solved before the age of the internet, cellphones, and DNA evidence. These are solid interesting mysteries. I had only read the first couple of books before acquiring the audio series. I really enjoyed them and am looking forward to hearing the rest of the series. If you enjoy historical mysteries I believe that you will enjoy this series.
